Who, What, & Why's About We
Vote Values |
|
Who is “we”?
“We” is all Christians
and Christian leaders who band together at this critical
hour to champion biblical values through the legislative
and political process.
What does “We Vote
Values” Mean?
“We vote values” is a
statement of our intention to prayer for and support any
initiative, organization, or individual that will champion
biblical values through legal or legislative means.

Why are we doing
this?
The bottom line is we
believe that the courts and the legislature have removed
too much of God out of our government. We believe we are
suffering as a nation for those actions. Perhaps the best
example of this is the breakdown of the traditional family
which is affecting tens of millions of children and
costing us billions of dollars each year. Based on
recent events such as same sex marriage being declared
legal in Massachusetts, and the debate on “one nation
under God” being in the Pledge of Allegiance, we sense
that certain Americans have gone too far in minimizing the
role of biblical values in our legal, judicial, and
social justice proceedings. We feel strongly that it is
time to recapture the spirit and moral intent of the
original vision of our nation’s founding fathers.
What is our goal?
Our goal is to rally all
those who share our vision for reconnecting God and
government. Together we will take back our seat in the
public debate and make our values known through voting and
a more active role in all aspects of the legislative
process. At the same time we pledge to increase prayer
for our nation, especially our enemies, as well as
increase our Christian efforts to care for the poor, heal
the sick, and set the captives free.

What Are
Our Values? |
|
While we by no means
claim to have the only values from God or about
Government,
our values are taken from those championed by Jesus Christ
and outlined in the Christian Bible. As far as the
legislative process goes, our core value is to increase
righteousness in
private and civic affairs. Clear support for our core
value is found in the book of Proverbs.
Righteousness exalts a nation. But sin is a disgrace
to any people. Proverbs 14:34
We believe that while
the value of righteousness is outlined in many religions,
it is best personified in Jesus Christ.
For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed,
a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just
as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith.
Romans 1:17 (NIV)
We believe, as did
the founding fathers, that the bible offers us the best
handbook for righteous living and that the Bible is the
best resource for public lawmaking or personal lifestyle
decisions.
All Scripture is
God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking,
correcting and training in righteousness, 2 Tim. 3:16 (NIV)
We believe it’s easy
for a nation to come to a place where they think they know
a better way than God’s way. And we believe many of our
lawmakers have taken us there.
Since they did not
know the righteousness that comes from God and sought to
establish their own, they did not submit to God's
righteousness. [4] Christ is the end of the law so that
there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.
Romans 10:3-6 (NIV)

Jesus, The Model of Citizenship
By definition
Christians should lead the way in responsible citizenship. We
should be the most avid voters as well as the most prolific
volunteers. The very DNA of Jesus Christ was to serve
diligently. He was the ultimate public servant. He not only
devoted his time and resources to others, He gave his very life for
the public good. He respected authority even when he disagreed
with it. He paid his taxes. He and his family showed up where they
were supposed to for census taking. He interjected himself in
debates and decisions about legal matters. He honored his parents
and obeyed the laws of the land. And when he saw something that he
really disagreed with, He often took dramatic actions to demonstrate
his displeasure of it. Rather that ignore the world which was going
from bad to worse, he stepped into the affairs of men and laid down
his very life to bring dramatic change to society as a whole. He
was our model for public citizenship as well as private morality.
He was the consummate model for compassion toward the weak and
suffering. He had no match in public debate on civil or religious
matters. He fully integrated life on planet earth with everlasting
life in heaven.
Jesus lived as if
there was and undeniable relationship between the citizenship in
this world and citizenship in the Kingdom of heaven. To ignore his
influence in public matters is to not fully appreciate who He was
and how He lived on a daily basis.
So if we call ourselves "Christians" then should strive to do what
he did. Be actively involved in every aspect of citizenship.
Expressing our well researched opinions through public debate as
well as the voting booth. And, as Jesus did, always look for
new opportunities to love and to serve our neighbors, and yes, even
our "enemies".
Our faith is
inseparable from our actions. There are many scriptures that seem
to indicate that there is a spiritual connection between our faith,
our behavior, our words and our deeds. These scriptures seems to
indicate that God looks at our behavior as at least one key measure
of our faith in His Son Jesus Christ. It’s as if God is saying
“actions speak louder than words”. We all agree that salvation
is by faith in Christ alone, but what does that kind of faith look
like on a day by day basis.

These are the Values we look for
in candidates and the legislative process: |
|
1. Respect for God |
God is the Maker of all things. He
holds the world in the palm of His hand. His Word, the Bible,
is the handbook for living. It contains everything we need for
successful living and a just government.
We respect God by respecting His commandments. This means
respecting the 10 commandments as well as the great commandments to
love Him with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength, and to love
others as we love ourselves. We support including "God
language" in any documents that reflect the aspects of America
as one nation under God. We believe in prayer and desire
it to be honored in all our schools and public functions. |
|
2. Freedom of Religion
|
We believe that a person is given free
will by God to worship or not worship the god of his choosing.
If a person cannot freely choose to love God, but is mandated by the
state to love God, then that person's will is being violated and
that is not love. Therefore freedom of religion is fundamental for
any society that truly respects God and wants it citizens to love
God. We believe government needs a strong connection to God
and His principles, not separation from Him. While all
religions are welcome in America, it was the principles of
Christianity on which this nation was founded. And it is
on these principles that it should be governed today. |
|
3. A Standard of
Morality Based on Biblical Principles |
A government that respects God should
respect the boundaries set forth by God in the Bible. The
Bible was instrumental in our nations founding and in the unique
design of our three forms of government. Most of our laws were
based on biblical laws of morality. Bible textd used to be
argued on the floors of Congress. Public schools used the
bible to teach children the alphabet as well as godly character.
Only in the last 60 years have we began to intentionally revise laws
to oppose biblical standards. The consequences
of these reversals have in fact "legislated" a fundamental breakdown of the family unit, a
rise in federal government control and spending, and the devaluation
of character traits such as absolute truth, honesty, and personal
responsibility. |
|
4. Respect for Church, Religion,
& American Traditions |
The church used to be at the center of
every community. It's steeple seen from all over town.
The "parson" was the person to go to for spiritual guidance.
With separation of church and state the church has been moved to the
outskirts of town and lost it's seat at the table of public debate. Eliminated from involvement in our
schools. And put second place to our business and recreational
activities. We need to recapture a
lifestyle that honors the church and church leaders as a source of
wise counsel in every aspect of community affairs. And the
church must be welcome at the table of legislative policy. |
|
5. Honor for Senior Citizens |
Honor your father
and mother that it may go well with you. We stand
against any law that does not honor the elders in our society.
Carrying for our seniors with dignity and respect is essential
to a healthy society. |
|
6. Respect for Life |
God is the creator of all life. He
commands us to respect and nurture his creation. All life
begins at conception. We believe unborn children should be
protected, not subject to the violence of murder. |
|
7. Sexual Purity |
We are against any
legislation that makes sexually perverse activities legal.
This would include adultery, sodomy, prostitution,
homosexuality & polygamy. We support the freedom of
speech. However we believe this freedom should have
boundaries when it comes to the exposure of our children to
pornographic material.
We believe young men and women should be encouraged to grow up
sexually pure not sexually promiscuous. We support
legislation that protects our children from sexually explicit
material in any media. |
|
8. Personal Responsibility |
We support laws
that create a foundation of personal responsibility as opposed
to government support. Work is good and necessary for
every adult. We support legislation that encourages
growth in small business and entrepreneurship. We want less
government control and intervention, and lower taxes. |
|
9. Absolute Truth |
At the core of
selfish and irresponsible behavior is the notion of relative
truth. If it's right for you, do it. No, we have a
model for truth in the Bible, His name is Jesus Christ.
Jesus said: "I am the way, the truth and the life".
He is truth. His words are truth. We can base all social
and personal decisions on the truth of Scripture. That's
the way we began the United States of America, that needs to
be our vision for our future. |
|
10. Moderation |
With moderation
comes an increased awareness of the needs of the poor and less
fortunate in our communities. With a simpler lifestyle comes
the time to volunteer to help others in need. We have
gone overboard as a nation in borrowing and spending. We
need to return to a society that understands moderation in
lifestyle, spending, and manners. The model needs to be
"debt free" not "leveraged". |
